First of all, I know that the title of the blog is grammatically incorrect, but I thought it sounded better then Geppetto and I. This blog is meant to document the process of our house rennovations. Since we don't have very common names, and to protect our privacy we will leave it at Geppetto and Me. I, or Me, will be writing the blog, Geppetto is too busy to take the time.
The name Geppetto came about because of him learning to work wood and my Italian background. He is very good at what he does. He has been a plummer, a tiler, a landscaper, and used to remodel homes for a living. He now works in an office and we are happy he has all the skills needed
to beautify our homes.
As for me, I am a stay at home mom of 5, I enjoy being home, cooking, eating good food and spending time with my family.
This home renovation is for us to enjoy, and feel at home. Hopefully this blog will satisfy the curiosity of those who have been wondering what we have been up to.
When the market crashed in 2008 we went back to renting the following year. We rented for 6 years and moved to 3 different locations in the mean time. We finally bought our home again in Rexburg Idaho. It was a one owner home, very well taken care of but very outdated.
After moving in I promised my self that I would always be grateful to have a house again, and to try not to get used to it and eventually complain. We thought we would never move so we would have time to remodel. In 2 years 90% of the home was done, 2 months after our 2 year mark it was announced that my husband's job would be relocating us to the Salt Lake valley. It was hard to swallow after all the hard work we put into our house thinking we would be there indefinably, and now we needed to hurry and finish the other 10% of the house so we could list it and move in the next 6 months. Everything we did to the house was to our liking with the purpose of us living in it, not selling it. We always tried to be grateful for our home and never complain or take it for granted (I know I am repeating myself but I am trying to drive the point) .The house had some strange things (like the laundry room in the basement hallway) but we decided to love the house as it was.
We finished the house and listed it in May 2017, I hate selling a home it's stressful and especially in this circumstances I felt like it was not by choice. We got an offer on our home on June 29th.
The first week of August we where in a title company signing papers for the sale of our home. The thought came to mind "I never thought I would be doing this...signing papers for the sale of my house!" Very stressful 6 months for the family needless to say, many mental struggles and many sleepless nights.
Here is the video of our old home
Our house hunting trip down in Utah was one day long.....yes you read right ONE day! That morning in the hotel room we came up with a list of must haves in the new home. This was the list: good windows, central heat, AC unit, RV pad. no HOA, and a storage room. A lot of the things we realized were crucial in winter weather and some things we wished we had at the old house. We saw 11 houses, and let me tell you ...what you see in pictures is not the same as seeing them in person. A lot of undone basements, even in 40 year old homes! You have had 40 years to finish the basement, 40 years! Very discouraging, the prices of homes are unreal and they looked pretty bad for what we saw... until we ended up in the area where I didn't want to end up....Layton. Of course I didn't put this house on the list, Geppetto did! We go and see it, and it is the only house that has everything on our list, the basement is finished, the backyard is huge, beautiful and full of vegetation, both edible and non edible. There is only one problem.....it's outdated but at a different level than our old house...a little more extensive. Oh my gosh....here we go again... Of course we start thinking we can do this!
